How to Find Ridiculously Cheap Flights

You've likely been over-paying for flights... When I first learned this, I was shocked that I could fly across the USA or even fly to another country for less than the price of a hotel room! Although, I often pay for my flights with my Travel Points, this tool can help you save your points by paying cash for some of these ridiculously cheap flights.

If you can be flexible on when you want to fly, if you can be flexible on where you plan to fly, and if you're willing to do a little searching, there's a world of possibilities awaiting you!

Changing the Way You Search

Many airline search engines force you to start with very narrow parameters. You must have the specific airports and dates entered into a search before you are shown results. This produces a very limited scope of options and prices.

To find lower prices, you must widen the scope of locations and timeframes to find the "sweet spot" options - A great location at a ridiculously cheap price! To help you find those types of flights, I'll teach you how to use two tools (Google Flights & Kayak) to search in ways you never knew were possible.

How to Use Google Flights

Step 1 - Go to google.com/flights

Step 2 - Select your closest airport(s) under "where from?"

Step 3 - Select "Anywhere" under "where to?"

Step 4 - Leave the departure and return dates blank, then press "explore"

At this point, you have to determine what your level of flexibility is. The key to remember is that the higher your level of flexibility, the lower the flight cost that you're able to book. In the following steps, you'll be able to select weekend, one-week, or two-week trip durations. You'll also be able to search for a specie month or search broadly in the next six months,

Step 5 - Select the specifics of your availability

Step 6 - Browse the map for locations, costs, and dates.

Using the process above, searching for one week flights from Chicago, Illinois to anywhere over the next six months, here's what I found:

How to Use Kayak Explore

Kayak can produce different and even better prices than Google Flights. Remember, the higher your flexibility, the lower the flight costs you're able to secure. You can absolutely use Google Flights & Kayak to find flights for specific dates, times, and places, but the ridiculously cheap flights are found by searching with flexible search parameters.

Step 1 - Go to kayak.com

Step 2 - Select your closest airport(s) in the "where" field

Step 3 - Define your search parameters

In the lefthand menu, Kayak allows you to search based on these parameters: Number of Stops, Flight Duration, Budget, Type of Trip.

Step 4 - Browse the map for locations, costs, and dates.
